I've never done a blog before, so I guess I'll start off by saying, "Bear with me" :).
Random Facts:
1. I have a sister named Kelly Bundy. (She was born 3 years before the show Married With Children)
2. I have a gray Chihuahua named Sophie. She keeps me from getting too stressed out.
3. I want to know everything there is to know about the production side of film. EVERYTHING.
4. I love movies! I don't have cable or satellite in my apartment, but I do have Netflix.
5. I'm fascinated with Psychology, and I chose it as my minor.
6. I love music! I honestly like music from the late 80s and 90s way more than I like more modern music.
7. I'm addicted to the Sims 2. I have the 3rd one, but I don't like it as much.
8. I have been happily engaged for two and a half years.
9. I have a few OCD tendencies when it comes to things being neat and organized.
10. I played just about every sport that was offered in high school, and I still love to watch them all.
Now let's get to music videos. I honestly do not watch many music videos anymore. I've started watching more of them since I've been in college, but the videos of today are not much different than the ones that I remember from the 90s. The more popular genres of music have shifted to include more rap and country, but the content of the videos is still very diverse. I will say that I am very glad that I was not alive for most of the 80s because I liked the music, but it's extremely difficult for me to enjoy the music videos of that era. (Just an opinion. I know everyone does not agree.)
One of my favorite music videos is one that I saw for the first time recently. The song is "Always" by Blink 182. I've always been a big fan of this band. (Evidence is located in my i-pod.) The content of the video is not extremely impressive. It follows the band members as they try to please a female model posing as an everyday girlfriend. The thing that really impresses me about the video is the technique in which it is shot. The frame is split into thirds from top to bottom, and at any given moment, a different band member inhabits one of the three frames. They are made up to look like one person, though. It appears to be shot with one camera and no cuts from beginning to end. Like I said, it is not the best content, but I cannot look away during the entire video because it is so visually striking to me. I also seem to have a preference for videos in which the band plays a larger role.
Another video that I enjoy is "Sex and Candy" by Marcy Playground. When I first saw this video, I was too young to understand the title or anything about the song. I was ten years old the first time I saw the video, and something about it has stuck with me through the years. It is not the most amazing song or the most amazing music video that I have ever seen or heard, but the strangeness of it sets it apart from most others. I usually am not much of an abstract person, but this video (in my mind) is almost purely an abstract interpretation of the song. The color, lighting, odd scenery, and random allusions to spiders painted a vivid picture in my mind, and it is almost impossible for me to now separate the song from those pictures. It's almost as if you're watching an old, Tim Burton cartoon, but with real people.
